As I understand it, auto makers started using single leaf fiberglass leaf springs sometime around 1990. The most notable one is, perhaps, the Chevy Corvette.
I have seen it suggested that these could be used for landing gear legs on smaller homebuilts, at least in the LSA class.
You could probably pick up a pair at a scrap yard for well under $100 for the pair.
There are a number of concerns I have, though. The biggest being, just what shape is the thing in? Also, has it been in an accident or been hit by a rock or other debris? Has the fiberglass started to deteriorate due to weather exposure? They are also not tapered. In addition, I do not know where you would find the specs for them, so would they be too stiff or not stiff enough?
