I am not looking for a Twin Wasp or Cyclone, just a nice, low-revving, direct-drive engine, say 3 or 5 cylinders and modest weight and horsepower, say under 200 lbs complete firewall forward and about 40-60 hp. That would make a great engine for any number of small replicas and would sound great to boot.
Cheers,
Matthew
- There are the Rotec radials, of course, but they are heavy, expensive and more power than I need or want.
- I kept an eye on the development of the HCI radial using VW cylinders for several years but the project seemed to stall.
- Old magazines from the 1930s often mention DIY radials using V-twin motorcycle cylinders with a custom crankcase and crank.
- I heard a while backabout a project to develop a small radial using Citroen 2CV cylinders.
- A gentleman named Webster developed a homebuilt radial named Whirlwhind, but I haven't found much on it.
Cheers,
Matthew
