After having just visited Flabob Airport on Saturday, I arrived home to the sad news of Tom Wathen's passing. I don't know any details, but he will be missed. Tom was a real advocate for grass roots aviation and experimental aircraft. He saved Flabob when it was in jeopardy of being sold to developers and brought it back to a position of prominence in the world of antique and homebuilt aviation. He set up a foundation to promote the airport and aviation, and I believe he structured it to continue on after his passing.
We need more people like Tom Wathen, which makes his passing even more tragic.
RIP Tom
