My work has me doing a lot of traveling lately and I'm getting really sick of driving 6-7 hours on a somewhat regular basis.

So... I'm thinking of actually getting some use out of my ppl and getting a light plane for commuting.

Pretty well everywhere I go has a paved runway long enough for small turboprops, so doesnt need to be STOL.

Most likely looking for something certified or at least a finished experimental, since I'm sick of driving now and with the amount of free time I have it would take years to build even a basic homebuilt.

Cost is the major concern, both purchase and operating, so looking for something that can cover the most ground per $ and can be bought for under 50k, looks aren't important as long as it's airworthy.

Would like a cruise speed better than 120kts, range isn't too much of an issue 350nm with a 350lb load would be adequate.

Some thoughts now are mooney m20, or earlier bonanza, though insurance might be the killer with a retractable.

Any suggestions?
