I have long admired the de Havilland DH.83 Fox Moth which managed to carry up to five people on just 120 hp and daydreamed of such a craft for my own family of five. Of course, those were skinny 1932 people with no luggage, so we'd need to do better.
So, how would you tackle the challenge of carrying a lot with a little? Maybe six people with a 160 hp Lycoming O-320? Or four people with a 100 hp Rotax 912S? Basically, we are looking at large wing area and low speed, but also the hourly operating costs of a smaller aircraft. So you could take the family on the that occasional weekend trip, but not break the bank in the usual recreational flights in between.
Also, anyone have any other low-powered 4-6 seat aircraft to suggest for inspiration?
Cheers,
Matthew
