What started out as a nice weekend took a bad turn for my wife and I. We were at home preparing dinner for friends of ours who were to dine with us at our home last night. In the midst of the preparation, we received a call saying that our friends, Harold and Kin, had been killed the night before in a plane crash while taking off out of South Lake Tahoe. While they flew often in their Mooney, they were passengers on this trip in another acquaintance's Piper Saratoga, dining in Tahoe to celebrate Harold and Kin's eighth anniversary.
We don't know what happened yet, but even with lay witness reports, any guesses would be pure speculation at this point. Television news crews have been trying to interview us regarding the crash, but we have largely shunned them, telling them that Harold and Kin were good people and that we would not participate in making a spectacle out of this tragedy.
Anyway, the mood in our house and among our other mutual friends has been a little subdued since receiving the news.
