I have seen people talking about and asking if a bolted ultralight structures could be welded instead. I know this would cause a big problem because the shapes of the structures that are designed for single bolt connections rely on those joints to shift and realigned so the forces on the structural members and connections themselves act always only in tension/compression and if the joints get welded solid they became loaded in bending., Typical of this would be a wing strut of any airplane.
What I’m looking for is some article on line or perhaps in a book that explains how this works because I’m neither a writer or an engineer and its difficult for me to explain it in the right terms.
