I'm exploring an idea of a staggered side-by side cabin layout for a Cub-like fuselage. It shows a great promise in many areas, including weight and balance, parasite drag reduction, easy access to both seats from the right side door and more comfortable and social environment in the cabin. It appears possible with only local modification of the standard J-3 or PA-18 fuselage.
This arrangement is known in the old designs (Tips Trainer and Belfair) as wella s in some recent ones (Kappa Sova, Stagger EZ), but it is rare. I did some mockup experiments and it appeared that such cabin can be really comfortable and functional. Indeed, what one can say about a general acceptability of such design?
