Ok, As a guy who talks about structures like he is an authority, I am here admitting to a hole in my knowledge. I have been looking, and I can not find a reference for wing rib strength/ stiffness/ spacing in a wing, so that I may check my work. Which authors and books cover this area? Or is this a black art?
My bird is fiberglass with cored composite skins and ribs. Here are the issues and variables that affect the issues that I have captured:
Wing skin stresses between supporting ribs/spars/etc - Variables are panel size (rib spacing), skin thickness, and core thickness;
Wing skin loads trying to pull the skins off of the ribs - Variables are rib facing thickness, tab thickness and area attaching ribs to skins, and rib spacing;
Net wing loads trying to bend and/or shear and/or twist the wing relative to the spar - Variables are rib spacing and rib structure.
Is this everything? If yes, cool. If no, what else is there? It looks like a lot of other airplanes, and is, if anything, way overbuilt. But I want to make sure...
