Hi guys,
I am hoping to complete the shaping of the foam aircraft this weekend. Everything is in place - all planks secure, sanded down, all irregularities removed. Cockpit opening symmetrical and ready. Tail bonded in, and faired into the rest of the fuse.
I have decided to make three (maybe four) molds as follows:
The reason for doing it this way is that if I have the bottom half sitting in a cradle, it is then a relatively easy exercise to sit in this canoe, get the seat organised, fit bulkheads, firewall, do all the cabling etc. Working with left/right halves will not facilitate this.
My Question, however, relates to joining the finished pieces together. It seems to me that what I need to do is to sand an inch-wide depression right on the join line. This way, when I come to joining the pieces together, I will have space to lay the glass tape without it rising above the level of the outside surface. Two layers of tape would then very nearly fill the depression with minimal filling/sanding.
I have not heard of this being done before, so forgive me if this is a no-no which has already been discussed and discarded elsewhere on the forum.
Regards,
Duncan

I have decided to make three (maybe four) molds as follows:
- Bottom half
- Top forward section
- Tail section (maybe Left/Right halves, maybe one piece)
