Here in "The Light Stuff" forum, we have repeatedly talked about how the FAA still doesn't enforce Part 103 operations. This may no longer be true. In the latest issue of Aero Sports Magazine, ASC president Jim Stephenson reports that 5 pilots recently got busted. And that they didn't have an accident, complaint, nor draw attention to themselves. The violators were flying unregistered 2-place aircraft without a pilot's license and without N-numbers.

I talked to Jim and asked if any single seaters have been/are being busted. He said, "Yes, but most had done something to draw attention to themselves."... usually something very minor. He thought one might not have done anything though.

It just goes to show that it only takes one person who doesn't like the sound of your plane, or is averse to U/Ls for any reason, to call in a complaint that gets you busted.

The FAA fined them up to $10,000, but gave them the option to get legal to avoid the fines.
