Hi Everyone,
I'm new here but this site looks like a great resource. Thanks for posting!
I am looking for recommendations on the best books/magazines available for people new to homebuilding.
I'm a student (Aerospace Engineering) and am planning to start a student-based team to design, build, and fly an airplane to race in the Formula 1 Class at Reno. This project is still in the early planning stages. I won't begin attending (as a junior transfer) until Fall 2010. From that point I expect about 2 years to organize a team and fully design/build/test a scratch-built plane.
Most of my friends and family are beginning to think I've lost my mind. I want to assure you all that I have experience on student project teams (both FIRST Robotics in high school and Formula SAE Racing during my first 2 years as an undergrad), experience flying, and healthy respect for the seriousness and attention to detail that this project will demand.
I've printed and put together a Reno and IF1 rulebook which I haven't been able to put down. I was hoping to get your recommendations for the best books, magazines, videos, or any other educational material to help me learn about homebuilding. I want to be pretty well versed in the methods of construction so that while organizing a team, workspace, and sponsors I'll know who/what we'll need and when we'll need it.
I plan to go to Oshkosh this summer and Reno again in the fall. I'm very excited for both, I'll be taking pictures and taking notes!
Thanks!
