Engines are expensive...so it occurs to me to ask...does anyone make and build their own engines? I have an idea of the level of skill involved and maybe it doesn't make sense to get something that you're willing to fly behind. But is it possible?

I know you can get kits to build engines and you can rebuild scrapped cores, but I'm talking about designing and building from scratch. I mean that's crazy, what kind of person would get into an airplane with a home made engine, right?
