I wanted to start this thread in order to hear from those people that are using or planning on using an alternative engine. I think it would be interesting to all of us to know who on this board is experimenting in this area and to connect with others using or installing the same engine.
Personally I am a long way from needing an engine but I am interested in the Rotary for my future project. I plan on going down a similar road as John Slade who is building a Cozy MKIV with a turbo Mazda 13b. Mazda has just released it’s next generation of Rotary called the Renesis. By the time I finish my airframe this engine may be common place and, if it is suitable, I may go with it. It's comparable in weight (installed) to a lyc o-360 but makes considerably more power at conservative RPM setting. There are still a lot of questions to be answered about this engine before I would feel comfortable using it though.
Anyone else using or dreaming of using an alternative engine? Those of you that are flying one, was it worth it? Would you do it again?
