Shown is a simplified portion of my new wing design in stick figure configuration (actually a truss stress program graphic) …..many members have been removed for clarity......There are 3 ribs and a small portion of the front and rear spars shown in an isometric configuration. The ribs are in red and the spars in green. The middle rib is redundant and has a very low stress compared to the diagonal ribs. I find it necessary to have the middle rib to reduce the column length of the rear spar in the fore and aft direction. The stress program gives an axial load of 5 lb for the center rib and 650 lb for each diagonal rib.
Question: Does this look reasonable as regards loads?...will a redundant member have a very small load?.....or is this just an artifact of the way we calculate the loads and a higher load value should be assigned to the middle rib
