OK, I admit it, the Gee Bee Model Q "Ascender" was pretty hideous, but it does spark the imagination.

What about a modern version with a pilot and passenger in a pod, the canard on a narrow forward boom, a strut-braced high wing above, engine on the leading edge of the wing and a less-hideous rudder arrangement, perhaps also on a short boom to the rear? Visibility would be great except straight up, the boom could be a truss-type intended to deform and collapse in the event of a crash, the forward engine location would put the crew pretty much on the CG and the long wheelbase would make for better ground handling than most trigear aircraft. I am not thinking VariEze here, more like a canard version of a Piper PA-15 Vagabond. Thoughts?

Cheers,

Matthew
