Sonex uses a titanium rod for its main gear legs. 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" dia and 3' long. They go into a socket on the motor mount and are angled down, back and out about 20 degrees each. At the bottom end there is another socket with the axle welded to it.
I haven't bent mine yet, but I have seen them bent and they always bend at the top where they go into the motor mount. My question... if the rod was tapered, wouldn't it distibute the bending force more evenly along the length of the gear leg instead of concentrating it at the point where the leg enters the motor mount?
