There are many reasons liquid cooled has advantages. efficiency, wear, cooling drag etc.. but one thing that has always bothered me is the fact that I have had thermostats fail closed in my car.. no big deal, just pull over. but is there a cooling circuit scheme that would fail safe in flight.. if the thermostat is stuck closed you tend to have a system that no longer cools shortly followed by an overheating even.. not 'cool' if you are in flight when it happens..
anybody heard of a fail safe thermostat?
this patent seems to address it but I dont think it ever became commercially available. https://patents.google.com/patent/US5361980
