Lisa seems to be prices more reasonable; given their development cost they can recover that in less than a decade.

Contrary to most other planes, it's (with the Privateer) probably the only amphibian that's not a rehearsal of old, very compromised designs, but a true revolution.

On the market at last, at nearly double the original projected price, but they've certainly made a nice job of it.

Their angle of attack system looks to be just the job, should save a few lives.

Haven't seen this posted elsewhere, apologies if it was and I missed it - Dan Johnson's flight review -

That demo pilot sure was stingy with the controls.

No matter how you feel about them, that's fabulous advertising...

Wow. They went right for the jugular.

Anyone want to make a bet on how many stockbrokers and white collar bandits they get on the hook with that porn? (They got me, and I don't have two nickels to rub together)

But I do wonder how much tap dancing and negotiating they had to do with the local FSDO in order to do that. I'm afraid the stockbrokers are going to be disappointed when they can't do their daily commute.

But... as much as I'm not a candidate for the Icon financially, I think this will be very good for aviation in terms of new pilot starts, publicity, etc.

They definitely one-upped Cirrus by making not just one, but several 180 degree turns over the river.

Great Scott, what a marvelous aeroplane. It flies, takes off of water, and offers a view from whatever altitude you're cruising at. What other seaplane could possibly do that?
Highly informative video.

$200k for a great view. I can do that for a lot less by going onto a helicopter ride.

Or Victor Bravo, does this open up the possibility of said Registered Reps, Traders, CFP's ,CFA's etc use the Icon A5 to commute straight up the Hudson and now have a home in the Hudson Valley. If the weather is IFR, do they tele-commute, or since it is a boat, just get it on the step and "boat" it to Manhattan....

My best,
Anthony

Their are many going down that road however their is a hidden gem in the Icon Story IMHO. That would be their Spin Resistant technology that is patented and John Roncz had a part in it.

I spent sometime reading this patent, and I am impressed. Go here: Patent US20140021302 - Spin Resistant Aircraft Configuration - Google Patents

I can't ask or anyone else shouldn't ask them to relinquish this intellectual property, but what if this technology was eventually open sourced, so we all could utilize it.

My best,
Anthony

You could save more than 15% by switching to a "home built" aircraft:

Admittedly it's not quite as pretty, a bit slower, and uses a two stroke - but saving $150,000.00 is worth a few sacrifices ...

For you humble consideration,

Is it a patent, or a patent application? I think that it is an application, and it seems to me (I am not an attorney, and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) that the novelty requirement will be difficult to demonstrate.

Regarding the ad that Autoreply posted, yes, there has been a step-wise increase in production values in video advertising in the last few years. You can point directly at GoPro for that, not only in terms of small-package high-def camera equipment, but GoPro's entire brilliant campaign to sell their own products.

That's what's most interesting to me with this ad: the targeting. This was laser-focused on exactly that market. Clearly Icon realizes that those are the people they're going to have to attract in order to survive. They started out as "everyman's amphibian", but have clearly priced themselves out of that market. The way this ad is set up, with the focus it has, means their target for at least this ad is exactly young stock hounds, arbitragers, and VP-level executives, all safely under 40, with lots of disposable income and more leisure time than the average working Joe.

Clever. We'll see if it works for them.

It sounds like their patent is based on use of existing devices... I'm not sure how you would go about patenting a technology that is merely the application of multiple existing, commonly known devices.

Thanks.

Here is what made me think that it is an application:

Publication Type is "Application" and there is no award date, even under the 'Legal Events" section.
