comparing numbers here

I have always been surprised at the high empty weight of the DA42, and let's talk about the DA42L with the Lyco engines before we start hearing "yes but it's diesel".
The Dyn aero twin-R made its first flight few days ago, it's almost 200% lighter (425 vs 1291 kg), and has similar cruise and stall speeds..

Ok the DA42 might not have benefited from latest composites technology but still ?

I have flwon the DA42 and found it a very nice airplane, always thought it was "state of the art"

anybody ?
