This looks an awful lot like a prop drive hub to me. The front wheel on a full size car might generate similar forces (similar enough, anyways...) to a propeller for this to work. There are many different kinds, from light duty to heavy (truck) duty. Notice the internal drive splines:
An adapter plate could attach this to a standard bell housing and then yould need a drive shaft and some math to size it to avoid resonance. I usually like specialy designed components for aircraft conversions, but there is something attractive about using mostly of the shelf parts. This is similar to something Monty said a few months ago. There are four bolt versions also, but the three bolt ones are very robust.
