I lived in Vermont for my first job out of college up in St. Johnsbury and for my graduate school in Brattleboro. I am thinking about getting a modest place up there in the near future and wondering about aircraft homebuilding and other sport aviation communities. Back when I was there, I wasn't doing much along those lines .
In terms of EAA Chapters, in Vermont itself you have EAA 968 (Rutland), EAA 1576 (Lyndonville), and EAA 613 (Swanton) plus EAA 1314 (Keene, NH) and EAA Chapter 1478 (Turner Falls, MA) if you are in the southeast corner or maybe EAA Chapter 353 (Queensbury, NY) if you are in the southwest corner of the state.
Does anyone have any experience with any of these chapters as well as any thought on particular airfields or areas that might have especially active homebuilders, antique aircraft restorers, ultralight enthusiasts, etc.? That's certainly not the primary factor in choosing where I might want to be, but it is a factor.
Cheers,
Matthew
