Running through landing gear layout of a new design. I'd like to minimize maintenance chores, and I'm exploring using rubber block suspension instead of an oleo. The 2" increase in travel required (based on Raymer) is fine; and I assume total weight will be more or less comparable. Is there a source on design / layout / sizing / construction of this type of gear? Also, how much of the shock absorber efficiency Raymer claims for rubber block absorbers (efficiency of 0.6) is based on lateral scrubbing of the tires? If the gear were designed with aft movement instead of spanwise movement of the wheels on compression, would efficiency be horribly impacted?
