I don't think I'll have to worry about these things for a while, but it's these kinds of things that you don't think about and then they bite you in the @$$.

I live (and plan to build my a/c) in Hildale, UT which for those of you who don't know borders Colorado City, AZ (by border I mean if you live on the right street, the other side of the street is a different state). Our local airport is AZC Colorado City, AZ where I intend to base my a/c.

It seems logical that I'll need to register this aircraft in AZ, but I live out of state. Is that OK? Also as I will be building said a/c in UT will I need to pay sales and use tax in UT? I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you can prove sales tax on all the materials that should cover sales tax for finished a/c rather than an additional value based tax on the owner who never actually bought a finished a/c? I guess my questions are:

1) Does anyone know how sales and use taxes are figured for homebuilt a/c? Is it enough to simply document sales tax for all materials?

2) If I register in AZ because my a/c will be based there and most often be hangared or tie down there, will I also be responsible for sales and use tax in UT because I live there and the a/c was built there?

I had better stop here to keep us all from getting confused and frustrated, but any answers or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys
