Is there anything to be gained in terms of thrust per HP by using multiple props instead of a single one for a given power source (neglecting the associated complexity and transmission losses)?
From my understanding, a helicopter rotor produces quite a bit more thrust than an airplane prop for a certain power level. I assume this is due to the high AR of the heli rotor, and perhaps lower disk loading. If using multiple high-ish AR props with each having an airplane prop-like diameter, would that have a positive effect on thrust per HP?
