I've heard and read that it is possible to get a higher cruise speed by deflecting flaps or flaperons a little Trailing Edge UP above nominal during cruise. Apparently some gliders, the 787 and the A350 make use of this effect.

Can anyone explain aerodynamically why this is and offer any method to quantify the cruise speed benefit for an LSA sized airplane?

Thanks,
