I'm researching Propeller design while researching the General Aviation Aircraft Design Book by Snorri Gudmundsson and wondered if someone had a rule of thumb formula for climb speed. I want to see/ assess the difference between Cruise speed, max speed and climb speed for my calculations for prop Diameter and try and determine the trade-offs - other than ground clearance. The Book itself is very good but the maths is involved, someone suggested the Vector Sum, but it didn't seem to vary the Net value much from the Horizontal speed as the Vertical speed of 1,000 ft./min is only about 9 Knots.
