I'm working on a canard glider design for the Red Bull Flugtag event, and a thought came up. Can you use differential deflection of the canard to function as a basic aileron? Is there some reason this wouldn't work? This is a single use glider launched from 30 feet height landing in water, so longevity or longer term effects are not concerns. It doesn't need to have much authority, it would be nice to be able to straighten it out if it launches crooked or is badly out of trim. It would simplify the controls if I can use the canard for both pitch and roll.

I'll be posting my design in a week or so for critique/humor/humiliation purposes.

Also, it may be subject to quite a bit of force on launch, where should the attachment point be for the launch device? a wide wrap around the main wing spar? Or a built up section of the fuselage?
