I have grown weary of the difficulties of my GP-4 project that stem from my rural location, and have decided to move somewhere with better access to support and supplies. My local EAA chapter is all but non-existent - they have never answered the phone nor responded to my emails, and their website hasn't been updated in years. There are no other home builders in my area, let alone a professional shop for consultation or assistance. It is rare that something I need can be purchased locally, with basic hardware store items often out of stock, or only one option of inferior quality available. The list goes on and on, so it is time to move on...
Ideally, I'm looking for an area that has an active EAA chapter with experienced builders, and a professional wood aircraft shop nearby. Proximity to Aircraft Spruce, Wick's, or another home builder supply store would be nice as well. So far the one place I've found that seems to fit the bill is Shafter, CA (Bakersfield area). Wood Wing Specialty and Massey Aircraft Services are based there, and Aircraft Spruce's west coast store is right down the road in Corona. I don't know much about the local EAA chapter, but they should be easy enough to get in touch with.
Does anyone have suggestions for other areas I should look into?
