I found a Becker radio that fits in a 2.25" instrument hole complete with a wiring harness headset jacks and ptt for $350. It was removed in working order from a plane during a panel upgrade. I'm still a ways away from needing anything for my panel but this seems like a good deal. I'm extremely limited on space in my panel and this would fit nicely. So would this be something to jump on or wait for a couple years til I'm closer to needing it?

Ok lets try narrowing the question down, are Becker radios any good new or otherwise?

Becker is a high quality German avionics brand and were one of the earliest to make COMs that fit in standard instrument holes, you often see them in gliders. With the European switch to 8.33 kHz frequency spacing and the need to upgrade radios accordingly, I suspect we'll see a lot of bargain COMs available from Europe as upgrades move forward.

I dont know if it is still the case, but Becker used to provide all the radios/stereo in Mercedes Benz cars. I bought one for my VW Lupo when I was assigned in Germany and it was the best car stereo system I have ever owned, bar none. So the com system made to fit in the circular panel holes has a very good reputation indeed.

That is a very cheap price. If you know the owner jump. If not, have to be sure it's not broken. I here the squelch adjustment can be touchy when learning the radio.

FWIW, there are several available on Barnstormers, asking price is $295-395, higher for the other models with more features.

Wow. A couple of years ago and it would have been $800.

Thanks for the replies, that's pretty encouraging. All I've seen so far is a pic of it on the bench powered up with the display lit up. But I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger.

The Europeans changed there radio frequencies, so all of them that are worth anything are finding there way to the used US market at very good prices.
