This picture is from the wire braced landing gear option on the Ragwing plans, and is intended for use on the Midwing or Heath replica.

The down tube, as it is called here, is 1 inch square 6061, and the axle is 3/4 inch.

You are supposed to cut the slot as shown, and the axle rides up and down in the slot by means of bungee chords:
