At the end of January it was reported that Amelia's plane may have been found on sonar 100 miles from Howland island where she was headed for refueling. That is further than a lot of researchers had figured .

So.... if the plane ditched, how far could it "Glide" underwater on its way to the bottom 16,000 feet below. They say even the Titanic "glided" a few miles from where it sank.
