So, what it basically says is that if you have a private aircraft and you're more than 48 hours in Italy, this is what you have to pay in taxes. For a loaded C172, you're looking at roughly 3000 Euro's (4000 US$) for a 2+ day visit to the country. For a glider it's a "modest" 450 Euro's...
I'm fairly certain this is an illegal tax (free movement of people and goods within the EU), but nevertheless it's the law for the time being...
11. E' istituita l'imposta erariale sugli aeromobili privati, di cui all'articolo 744 del codice della navigazione, immatricolati nel registro aeronautico nazionale, nelle seguenti misure annuali:
a) velivoli con peso massimo al decollo:
1) fino a 1.000 kg., euro 1,50 al kg;
2) fino a 2.000 kg., euro 2,45 al kg;
3) fino a 4.000 kg., euro 4,25 al kg;
4) fino a 6.000 kg., euro 5,75 al kg;
