    As you can see - I am still dreaming about electric airplanes :)
    But electric airplane is only a part of chain - without infrastructure is difficult to be used for travelling.
    Yes, it will request some investment from side of airport/airfield, but technology already exists.
    And positive "detail" is that the "super charger" version will be able to re-charge also electric cars...

    AERO 2018, 18.-21.4., Friedrichshafen - as far I know we are in A7, but I don´t know exact stand number yet :)

    The battery, a little pricey...

    Is there actually an off the shelf system to run a hybrid aircraft?

    Guessing it's a computer that knows throttle position and draw charge rate etc to keep the batteries charged and engine running at optimum efficiency?

    First step is fully electric plane, but paralelly is in development "range extender". You are absolutelly right that ideal situation is to let on computer to operate throtle and prop setings to keep best efficiency. Range extender can be based for example on small combustible engine running on optimal rpm. Or other systems.
    However the main goal for us is now to start to build infrastructure. Like with electric cars. They still have significantelly lower range in compare with combustible cars. But with available (slowly growing) net of charging stations they became to be more and more popular. It is possible to show many nice pictures, but without real "sample net" of quick chargers based on airfields is only a dream... So we want to cover Czech Republic with 5-6 quick chargers and make it "testing field". Ideally with support of some energetic company to start with "quick recharge for free" :) And in combination with endurance over 2 hours will be a lot of fun already :)

    Yes, ФNIX = Phoenix :) The stand in A7 is planned to be really large - together with MGM, Rotex and other friends. I am sure will be easy to find it.
    Anyway... we will have stand number soon so I give you know in advance :)

    I'm actually thinking the opposite spectrum of a hybrid drive system.

    Not thinking purely electric - thinking more size a generator meant to be always on, small battery bank to reduce the size of the generator. So you have the option for some of the funky configurations that don't exactly work in the normal w/b world. (Or electric twin, driven by a single gas generator)

    I am not sure if I understang exactly what you are looking for.
    One way is hybrid system like AXTER using combustible engine as main power

    Another way is to use battery and electric propulsion for most of operations and in case you need to fly longer distance you can add range extender (generator) - example here:

    You can also have the generator in-built in airframe.

    Size of battery depends on max. power you need.
    LiPo survives high "C" discharge, but is more dangerous.
    LiIon has lower Amps you can take from cell so battery is relativelly bigger for same max. power (but with advantage of higher capacity).

    I think that world is not only "white/black" - you have many possibilities how to approach your vision.
    Beleive me that if you try to build it, you will soon discover many "blind ways" - but that is always part of development :)
    For example - continual re-charge of small battery from generator when you use power from battery for propulsion is not that simple as it sounds.
    And I mentionned only possible problem with electronic system. You can also face problems with system reliability, battery lifetime etc...

    But without to try it you never know...
    I am definitelly fan of new solutions :)

    Another photo does not insert ... post later ... we added two electric motors to improve the quality of planning ... but the power of the electric motors was not enough ... special advantages we did not notice ...
