I'm working on designing a tail wheel (the "brackets", not the wheel—is there a name for that?). I've got some 4130 and was hoping I could pick up some additional mild steel at the local metal yard to complete the assembly. Would there be a problem welding other steels to 4130?
Specifically, I wanted some 1" diameter steel rod for the part that will have the hole in it into which the lower bracket will fit into for steering. So, I want to weld the 4130 plate that I have which I'll use to create the upper part of the bracket that will bolt to the spring and the "other" kind of steel together. Is that a problem? Is there a particular kind of mild steel I should ask for? I'm pretty sure they don't have 4130.
Thanks,
Jay
