Have you guys come across the Limbach engines? They have a variety of VWs from 1700 up to 2400 turbo. The biggest ones have watercooled heads.
They seem to have german and Chinese sites.
    Here's the EFI 74kW non turbo. (97hp)
They have engines up to 160hp!
Maybe our resident sinophile can tell us their reputation?

Technically they are a VW derivative and have no parts common with VW engines. In the 1980's Limbach had a US distributor and people bought Limbach engines for homebuilts. The original Pober Pixie was (and probably still is) fitted with a Limbach engine later in it's life. There was a long time homebuilder that installed a Limbach engine on a Oldfield Baby Lakes.

Last time I saw they were very highly priced. Don't know if that's still the case.
