I was reading some where (don't remember exactly where) that tip tanks can be used to reduce wing tip vortices, but at a sacrifice for weted area drag (the other tread got me to rethink this). If weted area drag is very small would you gain in the area of reduced drag from vortices

What are the pros and cons on tip tanks?
