There are some things I'm wondering about for the center connection of a 2 piece Graphlite rod spar I'm designing for a new wing for my Red Tail Hawk sailplane project. I do have Jim Marske's manual about working with the Graphlite rods.
For one thing, could any one here say what tension and compression strength values to use for a carbon fiber/epoxy plate 1/4" thick x 4" wide made from 23 laminates of 45 degree criss-crossed 282 style carbon fiber fabric? I have values for tension and compression for a 0/90 degree layout, and shear and bearing strength for a 45 degree layup, but nothing for tension and compression in a 45 degree layup, which I need for better bolt tear-out resistance. (Of course the bolts will not be in direct contact with the carbon fiber.)
