A buddy approached me yesterday and asked if I would help him repair his fiberglass fuel tank. I told him I would ask here for the proper way to fix his tank. It is leaking around the fuel shut off valve. This is held in with a rubber grommet. I told him that I would use a medal or aluminum grommet to screw this fuel valve into and not a rubber grommet.

My question. What should we use to repair this fuel tank? Regular fiberglass or should we throw the tank out and start over with a new tank made from something other then fiberglass?

I told my buddy this was the place to come to find the correct answer to this question. If this was mine I would not be asking this question and would just replace the tank with an aluminum one. Even if this cost a few hundred bucks. But he wants to repair this tank. From what I have learned about fiberglass tanks, I won't use one if I can.
