So I wanna build a plane.... Much easier said than done! The simple things are done, like power. M-14PF @ 400 hp is where I'm starting. So that gives me around an 80% sized airframe. Lots of room for me @ 6'2 and a passenger behind me. Another bonus of the F4F, is the simplified wing. No retractable gear to have to hide away like a Fw-190 with a bent main spar to clear the wheels. The 1st question is, what kind of structure and material to use for the fuselage and wings. Do I go composite like Tony and his Corsair 82? A steel tube and former structure like a Jurca? Or like the original formers with stressed skins? Then i need to figure out which airfoil to use. Wash out or no wash out. Electric retractable gear or pneumatic? And what questions am I missing? Oh, and a wing fold mechanism. (thinking about saving some ramp/hangar fees! $$$). Wet wing or dry?
