Hey guys,

I'm trying to do some analysis on the behavior of composite laminates both for a project that I'm on and for my personal design and I was wondering how one would go about doing it.

I'm trying to get the theoretical concepts down before resorting to FEA stress analysis on Solidworks as a way of cross-checking results, along with coupon testing.

What I've looked at so far are the Classical Laminate Theory, Plate Theory, and various anisotropic stress matrices. The process I've gotten so far is to isolate the loads, find how the stress is distributed between the layers with the matrices, and rotate some (or all) of the layering to remove any shear stress on the fibers (in either tension or compression).

So am I on the right track? Because I don't want to continue getting headaches from looking at this math if I'm going the wrong way...:nervous:.
