Let's say you have two engines: they have the same displacement and stroke but one has 4 cylinders (180* between firings) and the other has 8 cylinders (90* between firings).

How should the two engines compare in regards to HP and torque? That is, all other things being equal, what effect does going from one 'big' push per 180* of crank rotation to one smaller push every 90* have on torque and HP?
