Hello all
During the development of the AXSport carbon fibre aerobatic LSA we had to build a few propellers for these aircraft. First wood, then ground adjustable carbon. This led over the past few years into the AXSport Aviation constant speed propellers. Developed for the Rotax 912/914 and Jabiru 3300 engines, the 3 carbon fibre blades are driven by an electric motor mounted to the 6061-T6 hub. A microprocessor controller developed by AXSport maintains the constant speed selected by the pilot although the controller can also operate in variable pitch mode if necessary.
There are about 50 propellers flying in South Africa now, with the highest time flying on a Jabiru 3300 engined Jabiru 400. The majority of propellers are flying on Aeroplane Factory Sling 2 aircraft, although they are flying on almost all makes of LSA (which is legal in SA) and experimentals including a pusher variant for gyrocopters. Thanks to Jan Carlsson for his role in the blade aerodynamic development! Performance of the propellers is exceptional.
In development is a propeller for Lycoming 235/320 and UL Power 350 engines using the AXSport aerobatic LSA as the test bed.
