Hi all
Over the years I've been looking at doing a small-ish, affordable Spitfire replica. I know there is the Isaacs Spit out there, and I have the plans for that one, but I'm always hankering for something... better!
I've seen recently a plane called the Thatcher CX4, and it's an all-metal homebuilt job with a VW. It's about the same size as a 2/3rds scale Spit, give or take an inch or two, and according to the article it could be built for under $10,000.
What do other people think? Apart from the design costs, would a little Spitfire of this type be feasible?
What could it be made from? Metal? Fibreglass or GRP? Wood/Fabric?
