Mike,
you are right, your friend should consider lengthening his motor mount, I would suggest to at least 9.5 inches. Keeping in mind he may have to lengthen his cowling too.

Sorry Mike, forgot to answer the question, Kevin is right, S-1's are all nearly at the aft end of the C.G. I just have simple aluminum spools, 1" long, between the firewall and original mount, to push engine ahead….Ed
