Why does it seem like tandem seating AC must have this huge acceptable CG range while most of the new side-by-side LSAs all have 50# load limits for behind the front seats?

I've heard of certain AC (Bo and Last model of Navion Rangemaster IIRC) where you often run past the fwd cg when lightly loaded and need to put some ballast in the back.

What is it about a design which opens up that fore-aft CG range?
