On the RV Forum, there has been some discussion about drilling speeds. I have been experimenting with my new drill press and changing the belt to produce different speeds. The General concensus on the RV Forum was, "The FASTER... the better". In my recent tests, the fastest speed (3150 or so) produced those triangular holes that are not good. I slowed it down to about half that and it did much better. The holes were nice and round and more "burr free".

I know that AL should be drilled with speed and not feed. This being said, keep the rpms up and let the drill do the cutting.

Questions:

What speed is supposed to be "IDEAL" for drilling AL?

What drill do you use?

I have been switching back and forth between the Husky Pneumatic and my 12 v Dewalt. Lately, I like the hole which the Dewalt cuts on hi speed.
