I am new to the game here and just wanted to ask a few questions about Continental covers.

I recently purchased a few valve covers on ebay and stripped them down using a media blaster with crushed glass @ 30 PSI. I couldn't help but notice that a few of them have signs of corrosion.

Here are some pictures of them after being cleaned..

My questions are as follows:

a) Are they cast or formed aluminum, or are they cast or formed steel?
b) Can they be welded or braised, and if so.. what rods would you use?
