A question for the engineering types- on a conical type motor mount (VW, small Continental, some Lycoming) there is typically a diagonal tube from one of the lower engine mounting lugs to the opposite lower firewall mounting lug. This tube would appear to take the twisting load applied by the torque of the motor. My question is- should that tube by loaded in compression or in tension by the torque of the motor? I've seen it done both ways.

I'm needing to modify the plans design for the Breezy motor mount to accept a motor with starter and alternator and the cross tubes on the plans interfere.
