Could somebody please help me identify these parts on an io540 engine?

Specifically the push rod tubes have a clip that keeps them from moving out of the engine block. This clip has a hole in it. Should this hole in the clip have safety wire or is the hole used for some other purpose?

On the cylinder heads is a stripe of green paint and also a what looks like a grey plastic or foam rubber strip.

Is the green stripe used to identify if the cylinder has been over heated? In other words if the strip is burned does this it indicate that the engine has gotten too hot.

What is the little gray strip for?

THANKS!!!
